Altman, Parker Win 2012 Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon

The Chattanooga Track Club is offering a free entry to the 33rd Annual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon for anybody who registered for the 2012 New York City Marathon.

It was a 10K prediction run and Ray Kellum crossed the line in 45:37 after predicting a 45:38. Lisa Becht was almost as close with a finish time of 47:49 compared to a prediction of 47:50.

The Center For Sports Medicine is hosting a free runners clinic Thursday, November 1, 6:30pm at the CSMO offices. View PDF flier in the story.

It was hot and humid and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but that didn’t keep a large number of folks from gathering in downtown Chattanooga on Sunday morning for the annual Waterfront Triathlon.

Chattanooga Track Club members Tim Ensign, Jennifer Funk, Chad Varga, Bill Brock and Betty Holder make their mark at area races this past weekend.

The second annual Get Your Rear in Gear Chattanooga 5K Run/Walk will take place Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga.

All 2011 ROY Event points have been tallied. Volunteer and non-ROY event points have not be added in yet.

The 33rd Annual Karen Lawrence Run for St. Jude was held in downtown Chattanooga late Saturday afternoon and there was a surprise for the 398 finishers when they got to the finish line.

Reminder - Karen Lawrence this Saturday is the last chance for ROY participants to volunteer. It is also the last ROY event of 2011!

The Chattanooga Track Club announces the Club’s Marathon and Half Marathon Training Program for new and experienced runners interested in doing the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and Half Marathon and other fall races. See below the initial schedule for the training program runs, initial Junior Miracle Marathon run, information sessions, and a new Training Program for beginner runners who want to run a marathon or half marathon.

The first Walk to Defeat ALS will happen in Chattanooga on Saturday, September 18, 2010. This walk is in honor of Calder Willingham who lost his fight with ALS on January 18 of this year. We would appreciate any help with registration and food that volunteers can offer the morning of the walk.

The CTC season opening event, Scenic City Half Marathon, 5k & Charity Challenge is a sell out, according to Race Director, Bill Moran. We have reached our capacity of 1100 participants, representing 21 states. This is a great way to start off the race season says Moran, who also reported that our 8 charities have raised over $15,000. On Wednesday December 9th, 2009 the Chattanooga Track Club (CTC) will launch a half marathon training program. The 12-week program is designed to prepare runners, from beginners to the experienced, for the Scenic City Half Marathon scheduled for February 27, 2010 in downtown Chattanooga.

Geno Phillips, of Chattanooga, TN, won the Raccoon Mountain Round the Rim 10k Road Race held at TVA’s Raccoon Mountain hydroelectric reservoir. Debra Heaton, of Macon, GA, was the female champion of the 10k event. This year’s 10k race served as the Tennessee 10k State Championship race for the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). (more...)

The 35th running of the Missionary Ridge Race took place this morning at Bragg Reservation. The event honors the memory of John Brunner. Over 200 runners participated in this event, with the proceeds benefiting both the local chapter of the American Red Cross and a scholarship to Team Bruner.

Congratulations to Melodie Thompson for being named as Tennessee's new state representative to the RRCA. This is quite an honor not only for Melodie but for the CTC as well. Great work Melodie!

The 41st running of the Chattanooga Chase took place this morning at Riverview Park in North Chattanooga. With over 200 runners participating in CTC's oldest event, Bryson Harper won the race in a time of 27:07. (updated with link to pictures)

Hugh Enicks and Kerry Oedel won the marathon. The 10 mile race was won by Patrick Hall and Kelley Lowe-Colenbaugh. 136 children participated in Junior Marathon. (cont.)

Web and Gautier won the Signal Mountain Pie Run held on Oct 20th. Brad Harvey was the best predictor of his finish time, finishing just two seconds off his prediction. (cont.)

As part of an ongoing effort to promote running in the greater Chattanooga area, CTC presented a $2,500 check to the cross-country and track programs at UTC on February 19, 2007. The day also marked the first workday for Sean Pfister, CTC’s first-ever executive director.
