For Immediate Release

One of the most scenic and certainly one of the most challenging races on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will be held on Saturday, September 29 with the annual running of the Raccoon Mountain 5K and 10K races.

These races, which both start at 8:30 (EST) from the Laurel Point Picnic Area, feature a scenic route. The 5K is an out-and-back run that features a hill in the first mile while the 10K includes that same hill in the first mile and two other climbs along the route around the perimeter of the Raccoon Mountain reservoir.

The second one is six-tenths of a mile and comes at the mile and a half mark while the other is about a half-mile long and is located just past the midway point. The good news is that the final two miles are either flat or downhill.

Packet pickup and race-day registration begin at 6:30 a.m. and conclude at 8:10. All persons are urged to be at Laurel Point no later than 8:10 because the gates will be closed before the races begin.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Jasper Middle School.

Laurel Point is about 12 miles from downtown Chattanooga. Traveling I-24 West, take the Browns Ferry Road exit and go right before turning left on Elder Mountain Road. Then just follow the signs to the race site.

John Gilpin and Andrea May are the defending champions in the 10K as they won last year with times of 35:18 and 44:51, respectively.

Chas Webb and Stephanie Maurer were the 5K winners a year ago with times of 20:52 and 21:51.
