For Immediate Release

The 2015 Raccoon Mountain 5K and 10K races will be held on Saturday, September 26 with both races starting at 8:30 a.m. (EST) from the Laurel Point parking lot atop Raccoon Mountain.

The 5K is an out-and-back course while the 10K circles the reservoir located at the top of the mountain.

Both courses have a slight hill in the first mile with the 5K being flat and downhill the rest of the way. There are two significant hills on the 10K, including one between the one and two-mile mark and another just past the halfway point that’s almost a half-mile long, but like the 5K, it’s flat and fast back to the finish line.

Pre-registration is available at while race day registration will be held from 7:15 until 8:15. Because this course is closed after the race begins, anyone who plans to attend should be there before 8 a.m.

The 10K has been designated as the Tennessee State Championship by the Road Runners Club of America.

Defending winners include Caleb Casey and Addison Smith in the 5K with times of 18:41 and 21:00, respectively.

Geno Phillips was the 10K winner a year ago in 35:31 while Trisha Drobeck was the women’s winner as she finished third overall in 38:09.

Raccoon Mountain is a short distance from downtown Chattanooga. Take the Browns Ferry Road exit off of 1-24 West and turn left on Elder Mountain Road for the trek up the mountain. Follow the signs to Laurel Point picnic area.
