For Immediate Release

The 2014 Raccoon Mountain 'Round The Rim Road Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 with the start of the 5K and 10K races set for 8:30 a.m. (EDT).

The races, which start and finish at the Laurel Point Picnic Area, are both certified and contain a couple of significant hills in addition to some spectacular scenery along the way.

The 10K involves a loop around the reservoir and has a significant climb midway through the second mile and another at the start of the third mile.  However, the last couple of miles are flat or downhill.

Race day registration ends at 8:15, but all runners are urged to be at the starting area prior to that time as access to the top of the mountain will be closed shortly after 8.

Runners can register online at through Sept 25 for a fee of $25.  Race-day fees are $30.  The cost is $5 less if you don't want a T-shirt.

Chris Butler and Ellie Shelton are the defending champions of the 5K with times of 19:34 and 24:54 while Geno Phillips was the 10K winner a year ago in a driving rainstorm with a time of 35:26.  Jessica Marlier was the women's winner in 37:56, which was fourth overall.
