Record Sell Out for Waterfront Triathlon

July 6, 2009 (Chattanooga, TN) – The Chattanooga Track Club announced today that the Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon has sold out with registration topping 1,200 entries. With each entry representing either an individual racer or a team of two or three racers, overall participation in the triathlon is expected to be over 1,300. This marks a record level of expected participation for the race.

The event, which brings competitors from around the country to Chattanooga for race weekend, is expected to generate over $900,000 for the local economy. The race is scheduled for Sunday July 12, 2009.

The intermediate distance Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon features a 1.5k swim down the Tennessee River, a 42k bike along Highway 27, and a 10k race along the Riverwalk. The event will be centered around the swim/bike/run transition area located at Ross’s Landing, next to the Tennessee Aquarium.

As a 2009 USAT USA Triathlon Special Qualifier, Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon will serve as a qualifying event for the 2009 USAT National Age Group Championship to be held August 22, 2009 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon also serves as the Tennessee qualifier for the Best of the U.S. Amateur Triathlete Competition. The top female and male Tennessee finisher at the Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon will qualify for the 2009 Best of the U.S. Amateur Triathlete Competition to be held on September 27, 2009 in Mission Viejo, California.

The Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon is co-produced by the Chattanooga Track Club and Team Magic.
