Scenic City Race Registration Fees Increase Feb 10

Chattanooga, TN – Registration fees for the 2008 Scenic City Half Marathon, 5k and Charity Challenge increase on Sunday February 10, 2008. Participants you want to receive the early online registration rate of $40 for the half marathon and $20 for the 5k need to register by February 9th.

The event, to be held on March 1, 2008, features two races: a half marathon run and a 5k run/walk. The event also features a special charity challenge, with race participants and volunteers raising money for eight local charities.

Half Marathon & 5k

Both the half marathon and 5k start and finish at Finely Stadium, at the corner of Main Street and Carter Street, in downtown Chattanooga. The half marathon begins at 8:00 am and the 5k beings at 8:30 am.

The half marathon features a 13.1 mile course run alongside of the Tennessee River. Participants will leave the Finely Stadium area via Riverside Drive, heading toward Ross’s Landing. After passing the Tennessee Aquarium runners will proceed east on Amnicola Highway. After turning around, participants will head back to downtown Chattanooga via the Riverwalk. Runners will then cross over the Tennessee River via the Walnut St Bridge, run through North Shore, and then head across the Veterans Bridge. Participants will then return to Finely Stadium via Riverside Drive.

The 5k run/walk features an out and back 3.1 mile course along Riverside Drive.

Charity Challenge

In an effort to give back to the community, the Scenic City Half Marathon and 5k also features a special Charity Challenge.

As part of the Charity Challenge, a portion of each participant's entry fee will be donated to a charity of the participant's selection. Participants also have the opportunity to raise additional funds for the charity, if they choose, through a special online fund raising system.

Charities participating in the Charity Challenge include McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center, Bethlehem Center, Chattanooga Room in the Inn, Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County, Children’s Home/Chambliss Shelter, Kidney Foundation of the Greater Chattanooga Area, Tennessee Aquarium, and VORP Community Reconciliation Inc.

The Charity Challenge has already raised over $8,000 for the participating charities. The Challenge will continue to raise funds through entry fees and online donations thorough February 27.

The Scenic City Half Marathon, 5k and Charity Challenge is a Chattanooga Track Club event. Event sponsors include: Sports Barn, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Publix, PowerAde, Fast Break Athletics, Front Runner Athletics, the Plaque Shack Inc, and East Ridge Bicycles.
