Record Participation Expected at Triathlon

June 29, 2007 – The Chattanooga Track Club announced today that registration for the 3rd Annual BMW of Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon has topped 1,000 entries. With each entry representing either an individual racer or a team of two or three racers, overall participation in the triathlon is expected to be close to 1,500. This is the first time registration for the event has exceeded 1,000 entries.


The event, which brings competitors from around the country to Chattanooga for race weekend, is expected to generate over $900,000 for the local economy. The race is scheduled for Sunday July 15, 2007.


The intermediate distance BMW of Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon features a 1.5k swim down the Tennessee River, a 40k bike along Highway 27, and a 10k race along the Riverwalk. The event will be centered around the swim/bike/run transition area located at Ross’s Landing, next to the Tennessee Aquarium.


As a 2007 USAT USA Triathlon Regional Championship, the BMW of Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon will serve as a qualifying event for both the 2008 Short Course Triathlon World Championship and the 2008 USAT National Age Group Championship.


The BMW of Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon is co-produced by the Chattanooga Track Club and Team Magic.

About the Chattanooga Track Club

The Chattanooga Track Club is a non-profit organization with the goal to stimulate interest in running and fitness for all ages and to promote wellness through these activities. The club encourages anyone with similar interests to become a member and support our goal. No special qualifications, other than an interest in running, walking, and fitness, are required. Members can choose their own level of involvement: participant, volunteer, or sponsor. Everyone from serious competitor to the casual walker is welcome.
