Runners to Participate in Riverbend on June 16

Chattanooga, TN – On Saturday June 16 Riverbend will host a series of running and walking events in downtown Chattanooga. The 2007 BlueCross Riverbend Run & Walk includes two competitive running events and two walking events.

The 10k (6.2 mile) and 5k (3.1 mile) runs are competitive events with age/gender categories and awards. The 5k walk and 1-mile family fun run/walk are non-competitive events designed to encourage everyone, especially families, to take steps toward a healthy lifestyle.

All events start near the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee building at the corner of 8th Street and Pine Street. The 10k and 5k events will run through parts of downtown Chattanooga and North Shore. The 10k race will also run upstream along the River walk. The 1 mile fun/run loops through downtown Chattanooga.

The event includes a corporate challenge, with an award for the company with the most team participants in all events combined.

Participants may register online at RiverbendFestival.com or in person at the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee tent outside of the Riverbend festival.

The 2007 BlueCross Riverbend Run & Walk is a Chattanooga Track Club event and is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Dasani, Powerade, Snickers Marathon Energy Bar, and Comcast.

Chickamauga Battlefield Junior Marathon

The 2007 BlueCross Riverbend Run & Walk also provides children enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grades with the opportunity to sign up for the inaugural Chickamauga Battlefield Junior Marathon.

The junior marathon, which runs thorough the summer and fall, will culminate in a special event to be held during the Chattanooga Track Club’s annual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on Saturday, November 10, 2007.

To participate in the junior marathon children need a parent to register them for the event and they need to pick up an official Chickamauga Battlefield Junior Marathon log sheet. Then, over the course of the summer and fall, children will run, jog, or walk a total of 25.2 miles at their own pace. Children can divide up the distance in any way they like; they just need to complete a total of 25.2 miles with adult supervision before November 10.

The final mile of the junior marathon will be completed during the actual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 12pm. Runners who submit a completed log sheet and finish the last mile will receive a race number, t-shirt, finisher’s medal, and goody bag.
