Chattanooga Chase Dominated by Teenage Runners

Chattanooga, TN – Teenager runners dominated the Chattanooga Chase 8k and 4k road races held at the Riverview Park in North Chattanooga on Monday May 28, 2007.

19 year-old Zach Buffington won the Chattanooga Chase 8k race. Kelly Bullock, 40, was the female champion of the 8k event. The 4k road race was won by 18 year-old Michael Walker. 13 year-old Natalie Thedford was the 4k female champion.

This year marks the 40th running of the Chattanooga Chase, one of the oldest races in the area. A misdirection on the 5k course lead to a shortened race of approximately 4k.

The event experienced larger than expected participation, with 206 completing the 8k and 72 finishing the 4k. The event also featured a 1 mile fun run and walk.

The races raised money for Chattanooga’s Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing an alternative means to deal with juvenile non-violent crime.

Under new race direction the event featured new overall and age group awards designed to honor the Memorial Day holiday.

The races were produced by the Chattanooga Track Club and the Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga. The event was sponsored by Decosimo, Southern Coffee Service, First Tennessee, and Lookout Mountain Tomato & Banana Company.
