Runners to Race Through Downtown Chattanooga on April 21st

Chattanooga, TN – On April 21, 2007, runners will take to the roads of downtown Chattanooga during the 2nd annual BlueCross Market Street Mile. The flat, fast, u-shaped race course is designed to encourage runners to test their abilities against current state records in their own age and gender groups.

The event also includes the family friendly Mystery History Quest walk. The event starts at the Tennessee Aquarium registration area, where participants pick up clues that will lead them to historical spots in downtown Chattanooga. This is not a timed event. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace.

The one-mile race course begins on Market Street near 2nd. The course heads down Market Street before turning on 8th street. Runners then quickly turn right onto Broad Street and run to the finish near 2nd street.

The race also marks the launch of the Chattanooga Track Club’s new Chickamauga Battlefield Junior Marathon. Elementary school age children are eligible to take part in the event, which runs through the summer and fall and culminates in a special event at the annual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on Saturday, November 10, 2007.

The BlueCross Market Street Mile is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Chattanooga Times Free Press, Comcast, Fire Eye Productions, Republic Parking, First Tennessee Bank, Big River Grille, Stone Cold Creamery, Southern Coffee, Powerade, Dasani, and the Chattanooga Track Club.
