For Immediate Release

The annual 5K for FCA, which had always been held on Labor Day until a couple of years ago, has been moved back to that original popular day which is Monday, September 2 with the same flat and fast course that starts by the lake in front of Chattanooga State and finishes by the tennis courts.

It’s a popular 3.1-mile race that benefits the work of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in all the area middle and high schools in addition to local colleges.

The race begins in front of Chattanooga State and exits to Amnicola Highway where it heads toward town before turning into the Chattanooga Riverpark. After passing the Hubert Fry Center, the course turns right toward the boat ramp before turning right again on the sidewalk and coming back up river before re-entering the Chattanooga State campus.

The final half mile returns to the finish line is flat and fast, ending just around the curve by the tennis courts.

Race-day registration will start at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2 with the 5K race starting at 8:30. The Kiddie K and junior marathon one-mile will follow at 9:30. Awards will be presented at 10.

Pre-race packet pickup will be held on Friday, August 30 from 2-6 p.m. at the Front Runner Athletics, located at 4251 Hixson Pike.

The defending champions for this event include Ryan McGinnis and Lesley Green with times of 17:37 and 19:02, respectively. Andy Highlander and Mae Mae Powe were the runners-up a year ago.
